Why convert FIT to TCX?
FIT files are compact and efficient, but they are binary and difficult to inspect or edit. TCX files use XML, which means you can open them in a text editor to review or modify workout data. Converting to TCX is useful when:
- A training platform only accepts TCX uploads
- You want to manually edit timestamps, heart rate, or other fields
- You need to share a workout with someone who uses non-Garmin tools
- You are troubleshooting data issues in an activity file
What data is preserved?
FitConvert preserves the key workout data during FIT to TCX conversion:
- GPS coordinates
- Timestamps
- Heart rate
- Cadence
- Elevation
- Distance
Lap structure from the original FIT file is simplified into a single lap in the TCX output, which covers the full activity duration.

Editing TCX files after conversion
Once you have a TCX file, you can open it in any text editor. The XML structure makes it straightforward to find and adjust specific data points like timestamps or heart rate values. This is one of the main advantages of TCX over the binary FIT format.
